Member's Car and Information
Shawn & Amy Murphy - About 3 years ago my wife came home from
work and announced she wanted to buy a toy. With Amy, this could
be anything, so I asked, “What kind of toy?” She replied, “I want
a Porsche. I’ve always wanted a Porsche.” She said I had toys and
she wanted a toy, too. When I reminded her that our boat was both
our toy she responded with, “Yeah but you have all your tools, too.”
“Why do you think my tools are toys?” I asked naively. “Well, you
spend a lot of time playing with them in the garage.”
Amy & I had been together for about 7 years at this time and
I had never heard of this mad desire for a Porsche but not seeing
much of a downside, we started searching. Honestly we both love
cars and planes and boats and racing so it seemed like a pretty
good idea. And besides, at the time she was making more money than
I.
So after a brief search we found her a white, ’89 911 Cabriolet.
Shortly after buying the car we discovered there was a Porsche Club
not only in Las Vegas where we had just moved, but all over North
America. Looking for a way to meet new people we joined the club
and found a whole group of new friends. We quickly got involved
and in a very weak moment, I volunteered to take over the task of
Newsletter Editor (it may have been after some event where alcohol
came into play. I don’t remember) and not wanting to see me suffer
alone, Amy took on the Goodie Store. The person I took the newsletter
from had been doing the job for about 5 years and really needed
a break. I always said the only way I would be able to get out of
it would be to sell the car, quit the club and move out of state.
He is now doing it again.
We had a wonderful time there but, we both accepted great jobs
in Fresno and moved here last August. We have finally gotten most
of the remodeling done on our house and we are now looking forward
to spending some time with the local club here. I have included
a picture of our car taken on Fremont Street where the Las Vegas
region holds their annual Zone Concours every April. It’s a great
event and very popular in Zone 8. And we won first place in the
Wash & Shine division at our first Concours.
We are looking forward to meeting the members here and driving
our car on, what has to be, some of the greatest Porsche roads in
the country. So if you see two people at a PCA event who look a
little lost, please introduce yourselves.
Contact Gary Smalz if
you wish to have your car shown here.
