Christmas Delivery
Shari Walker
As many of you may know, we collect non perishable foods all during
the year at our dinner meetings, and many people have inquired "why?"
Let me introduce our charity for the year.
I teach at one of the lowest income schools in Fresno, and each
year we have selected a family to benefit from your generosity.
There are requirements, like the children in the family must attend
school regularly, must actually try to do the work, etc. These are
the children who should be rewarded.
At Christmas, the Club votes to purchase presents for each child,
and a committee handles that. We then procure a Christmas tree,
used to decorate at the party, and the next day it is taken to the
family, along with the presents for the children and the foods we
have collected.
Over the years, we have witnessed so many excited and appreciative
families, mothers who will stand and cry when they see the food
coming in, and the presents for their children. One year a child
looked at a tag on a gift, and excitedly announced, "that's
my name". Another year we delivered bikes for each of the boys,
and when we were leaving, they cautiously asked, "are these
really for us?"
Since this is really what Christmas should be, we appreciate each
of you who donate throughout the year.
